About
Hi! My name is Laura Malone.
My journey in education began about twenty-three years ago as a certified general and special education teacher in our local public schools. After my first child was born, we decided to dive into an alternative method of education for our children - something that recognized them as individuals, taught them how to be problem solvers, think for themselves and learn from their failures. We wanted our faith and understanding of God to be a natural part of their daily learning and give them the freedom and time to explore anything and everything they were passionate about so we ventured into homeschooling. Three years ago, we transitioned into a microschooling program for homeschoolers and opened our doors to our community. Our learner-driven educational environment is designed to prepare students for the 21st century - focusing on problem solving, creativity, technology, growth, self-discipline, responsibility, character, faith and purpose.

What Makes Liberty Grove Learning Different?
Get to Know Us
We are an alternative to public and private school, but we are NOT designed to be just like them. We are DIFFERENT because:
-
We combine various ages. Younger students can learn and look up to the older ones. Older students have an opportunity to lead and mentor the younger ones.
-
Learning is assessed through online progress data for CORE subjects (math, reading, language), hands-on projects and portfolios.
-
We do not do standardized testing.
-
Students move at their own pace in CORE subjects, allowing those that are struggling to slow down and work toward mastery, while enabling those that are advanced to continue to move on at a challenging pace.
-
Students do not sit at desks all day. They are given freedom to work in various spaces (tables, couches, floor, outdoors).
-
We give students freedom in how they manage some of their time each day.
-
Students set their own learning goals and make plans to achieve them.
-
Student have opportunities to make mistakes and learn from them.
-
They are encouraged to discover their God-given purpose not just for the future but for today.
-
We school four days a week (M-Th) and we are off on Fridays for family time and exploring interests/hobbies.
-
We teach the importance of nature and how it positively affects our learning and physical health.
-
We take field trips and engage with our community.
-
Our goal is to create lifelong learners - adults who realize that learning isn't meant to stop after 12th grade. It is a vital part of living a fruitful and healthy life.
